Maj. Gen. Garrett Yee

Military Deputy to the CIO/G-6, U.S. Army

During his time as deputy to the CIO of the Army, Maj. Gen. Yee has supported the development of strategy, policy and guidance for the service’s ongoing effort to modernize and improve the network and its security. With his time in the role coming to an end, he pointed to the importance of leadership to the Army’s IT modernization. “Leaders provide purpose, direction, and motivation to the team to ensure mission accomplishment. While leaders provide vision and goals for the organization to achieve, I believe that it’s also important for leaders to truly care about the people they lead,” he said. “I believe we need technical, analytical, and IT leadership to optimize the modernization effort within federal IT. I add the IT leadership piece because it’s more than just technical skills that we need to move forward.”
