CIO, General Services Administration

Shive is one of the longer-serving CIOs in the federal government. At GSA he oversees the entirety of the agency’s IT operations and budget to make it an effective partner to other organizations across government. While Shive is a recognized leader for driving modernization at GSA, he says that wouldn’t be possible with a talented IT workforce. “Without good people, transformation and modernization plays fail, so curating the pipeline of talent into an organization and keeping them engaged with meaningful work is easily one of the top 3 executive priorities of a strong leader,” he said. “Good leaders are empathetic, putting the interests of others before our own. They keep the ‘people’ part of the good 21st century business practice at the forefront of everything they do.”
