A panel of state broadband officials and legislators said they want more clarity from the federal government when it comes to broadband expansion.

A new piece of legislation gives state IT chief Joshua Spence a CIO title and greater authority to manage information technology across state agencies.

Technologies that can help agencies automate processes were a huge help this year, but there are still some pockets of reluctance in government, several state CIOs said.

The move is expected to save the state government $11.5 million, Gov. Jim Justice said.
